Bombardier wins TfL contract to build new trains

06 July 2015/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Rail, Transport Planning

Transport for London (TfL) has signed a contract with Bombardier to build a new fleet of trains, which are due to enter service from 2018.

A total of 45 trains will be built at Bombardier's factory in Derby, which will support hundreds of jobs in the area, complementing the 60,000 roles already supported by TfL's wider supply chain outside London.

The new trains are intended to operate on the Liverpool Street to Enfield Town, Cheshunt (via Seven Sisters) and Chingford routes.

All of these services are due to become part of the TfL network in May, and the new trains will also be used on TfL's existing routes between Barking and Gospel Oak and between Romford and Upminster.

Managing director of London Rail Mike Brown said: "Some of the trains we have inherited along the West Anglia route are over 30 years old and have not been in use for some time. We're now working hard to overhaul these trains."
