Andrew Boagey CMILT appointed as new Railway Engineers Forum Chairman

09 September 2015/Categories: CILT, Press Releases, Industry News, Rail, Transport Planning, Institute News

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) is pleased to announce that Andrew Boagey will serve as the Railway Engineers Forum (REF) Chairman for CILT’s two-year term.

Andrew takes up the Chairmanship with immediate effect, succeeding Lawrie Quinn of the Railway Civil Engineers' Association and he will provide support and leadership for the group which brings together rail professional organisations.

Andrew has been an active member of the Institute for more than seven years.  In addition to his CILT membership he is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers’ Transport Panel, the Railway Civil Engineers' Association Management Committee and the Permanent Way Institution. Andrew has worked in the rail industry since joining British Railways as a sponsored student in 1983. His career has included working with consultants and contractors in the UK and abroad. Andrew led French consultant SYSTRA's railway engineering activity in the UK before establishing ANB Rail Consulting in 2014. He is currently working with Transport for London on the engineering and operations planning of Crossrail 2.

Andrew is focussed on improving professional development and making the industry an inclusive and attractive career choice for aspiring entrants to the profession.

He said: ‘There has never been a better time to join the railway industry, but we still have work to do to ensure that the profession offers the best possible access and pathways for energetic, hard-working young professionals.

‘Career structure and development support have to be excellent if we are to attract and keep the best entrants. The REF has excellent membership support and representation, so we are well-placed to drive good practice in this area.’

The REF serves as an umbrella organisation for rail-focused professional bodies and aims to foster collaboration, share programming and planning of events and gain consensus within the professional railway engineering and operating community.
