Norwegian Cargo signs new airmail agreement with Royal Mail

30 November 2015/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain

Norwegian Cargo, the freight arm of low-cost airline Norwegian, continues its growth in the UK by signing a two year framework agreement with Royal Mail’s Gatwick Air Mail Unit (GAMU) to support international airmail shipments between the UK, Scandinavia and the U.S.

As Norwegian’s long-haul network continues to expand, freight forwarders will benefit from at least 180 tonnes of capacity per week on transatlantic routes this winter. Capacity has increased with Norwegian’s daily flights from London Gatwick to New York and flights to Los Angeles increasing to four times a week from Spring 2016. New Gatwick-Boston flights will also launch from May 2016 with further long-haul routes from the UK also being planned.

Bjørn Erik Barman-Jenssen and Head of Cargo at Norwegian said: “Norwegian’s huge expansion in the UK is not just about passenger growth but cargo as well. This is a great time to strengthen our relationship with Royal Mail. Royal Mail has already trusted us to ship around 200 tonnes of mail to the U.S. and Scandinavia so far this year and our UK services will expand with new routes and more capacity to the world’s leading cargo hubs. We look forward to supporting Royal Mail’s International services as Norwegian Cargo works toward becoming the go-to carrier for transatlantic shipments.”

Gary Taylor, International Service Manager, Western Europe, Scandinavia, Poland & Russia at Royal Mail said: “The increase of online purchases in the Nordics from UK retailers and SMEs makes Norwegian Cargo’s enhanced network and widebody capacity an attractive proposition. Norwegian has been fulfilling our requirements of speed, efficiency and reliability for mail shipments since we began working together in 2013.”

Norwegian’s long-haul destinations are serviced by a growing fleet of state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliners with each aircraft offering up to 15 tonnes capacity.

Norwegian Cargo offers freight capacity to all destinations in Scandinavia and a range of European destinations in addition to Bangkok, New York, Orlando, Oakland, Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale.
