Reading Buses triumphed at this year’s UK Bus Awards, winning the UK Bus Operator of the Year award ahead of Brighton & Hove Bus and Coach Company and Safeguard Coaches. Reading was also named Top Shire Operator for the third year in succession and it also won gold awards in both the Marketing Excellence and Marketing Initiative contests, while Brighton & Hove was Top City Operator and Safeguard was named Top Independent Operator.

The Services to the Industry award went to Dr William Wright, founder of Ballymena-based Wrightbus, and a special award to mark the 20th year of the UK Bus Awards was presented  to Ray Stenning, Best Impressions, for his contribution to design in the bus industry.

The Go-Ahead Group topped the major groups by winning ten awards in total, with Stagecoach winning seven awards, Arriva winning six and Firstgroup two. 

“It’s great that the 20th year of the UK Bus Awards scheme shows yet again what can be achieved for the benefit of passengers and the communities we serve,” says UK Bus Awards chairman Tony Depledge. “Every year of the scheme has reminded us that where authorities and operators align their priorities and develop schemes together, the results can inspire the whole industry.”
