St Helens College to Celebrate European Supply Chain Day

11 April 2016/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Logistics & Supply Chain

Staff and students at St Helens College are busy organising and preparing for a series of events and activities to mark European Supply Chain Day on Thursday 21st April.

Launched in April 2014, European Supply Chain Day aims to raise awareness of the value of logistics and supply chain activities in our everyday lives. The College are using this as a platform to raise awareness of skills shortages and potential career opportunities in the logistics, transport and warehousing sector.

The College, who recently gained approval to deliver Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) qualifications are currently preparing to launch a brand new £3million Northern Logistics Academy in September 2016 in partnership with Knowsley Community College. A project approved late last year by the Liverpool City Region's growth deal fund.

Jette Burford, Principal of St Helens College commented: “The logistics sector is currently suffering a skills shortage in order to meet the demands from new Liverpool City Region Superport. European Supply Chain Day 2016 is an excellent platform for us to launch our CILT qualifications and raise awareness of careers in logistics and transports generally within the college and local area.”

Events taking place during the day include careers and advice sessions on entering the industry and workshops and activities for students.

Additionally, the college will also be officially launching its CILT accredited logistics, transport and warehousing qualifications during a special open event in the evening. During the evening, tutors from St Helens College will be on hand alongside representatives from CILT to discuss career and study options within the logistics, transport and warehousing sector. The event takes place from 4.30pm – 7.00pm in the Beechams SmithKline building.
